makeup brushes

I am a MAC girl. I love everything about their makeup and I'm very familiar with it, so the majority of the makeup stuff I will suggest will be from MAC. I know there are many more brands out there that are wonderful, but frankly I don't have the time to try them all.

So, the next thing we need to talk about is getting good brushes. You don't have to run out tomorrow and spend hundreds of dollars at once (if you do that's awesome) but you really should invest in a few good brushes every year until you have everything you need. A good brush costs starting around $15 and goes up to around $50. The really cool thing is, around the holidays MAC comes out with brush sets for about $50 and you get 5 travel size brushes. These are a great way to start or add to your brush collection. If you didn't score one of these sets during the holidays, you can look forward to the anniversary sale at Nordstrom (in the summertime), when you can get MAC brush sets and makeup palettes for a great price too.

You may want to pick up some brush cleanser when you go. That way, when you experiment with bright colors, they don't come back to haunt you the next time you use that same brush. Plus, it helps hydrate your brushes too (which will make them last longer, therefore justifying the purchase of the cleanser).

Go through your old brushes and TOSS the ones that look like your dog chewed on them or you accidentally ran them over with your car. TOSS the ones that feel like sandpaper on your face. Applying makeup shouldn't be a painful experience. TOSS the ones that are just plain old and grody!

first things first

Before we dive right in with makeup, we need to discuss a few things. What are you using to wash your face? Please don't say "just water in the shower" or "the same bar of soap I use to clean all other parts of my body" ew. I know a lot of us don't have a ton of money to go out and spend on skin care, but it's your FACE people! It's always out there on display for the world to see, so take care of it! How many people actually come to your house on a regular basis? You probably spend your money on more crap you don't need in your house but say "Oh I could never spend $30 on face wash!" But why not? Everywhere you go people look at your face! And all those people you are having over to your house... they see your face too. After you start making some changes with your appearance, people won't even be able to focus on the new piece of furniture you just refurbished because they won't be able to stop staring at you!

Please visit a salon or makeup counter and invest in that beautiful face of yours. If that is way out of your budget, at least go get some Oil of Olay or something. And you want a good moisturizer. I use dermalogica's skin smoothing cream. Love it!

Now, you'll need something to wipe your makeup off at night. I highly recommend running (not walking) out and getting these MAC wipes. It's like a baby wipe for your face. They are so easy to use and they take off mascara no problem....
And when you start practicing your new eye makeup looks, you may make a few boo-boos. Just pull out a wipe, and mistake gone!

Ok, do you have your skincare regime ready? Do you have makeup remover? Good job! We are ready for the next step.

Welcome!

I hope when you stop by to take a peek at my blog you will learn a thing or two, and get inspired to spend a few extra minutes in the morning getting ready so you can look your best every day! This blog is geared towards, but not limited to, us moms who spread ourselves too thin most of the time and sometimes forget about ourselves. When we look good we feel better, get more accomplished, and our whole attitude changes. We have more confidence. (I am generalizing, ok... I have no scientific research at this time to back up these statements, but we all know it's true)
I know it's hard to get ALL ready for the day when sometimes you don't even leave the house. At least in  the rare chance somebody stops by you wont have to freeze in fear that the person knocking on your door hears you in there and you may actually have to answer it. And (I'm going to be brutally honest here) do you really think your husband after working all day (and quite possibly coming in to contact with several ladies who are dressed up and pretty) wants to come home to a clean house, but a sweaty wife with no makeup and dirty hair in a pony-tail?.... "My husband does NOT care about looks" some of you might say. Ok, maybe he is a saint. Or blind. But if he doesn't care, guess what. YOU should. Let's all have a little more self worth. Let me say that I am not judging anybody out there, because yes I am guilty of the occasional no makeup, same lounge pants for 3 days straight, and brushing my teeth for the first time of the day moments before my husband walks through the door from work.
So I created this blog for those of you who are saying "HOW?" "How do I do my makeup?" "I don't have time!" "It's too hard!" "What about this hair??" "I'm just not good at it"
I will show you how easy it can be to go from frumpy to fabulous in just MINUTES! It doesn't take long, ladies. Everybody will benefit from your new found hobby called "looking good" (even the checker at the grocery store who is sick of looking at your tired eyes and morning breath).
